Great Oldbury Primary Academy School Visit for World Book Day 2026

Great Oldbury Academy Primary Visit

To celebrate World Book Day 2026 Andy had the pleasure of visiting Great Oldbury Academy Primary, Stonehouse, Gloucestershire. It was a brilliant morning, full of fun, dressing up and, of course, lots of reading.

The day started with Andy being introduced in a school assembly. Andy chatted briefed about the importance of World Book Day and explained that there is a lot more to books than just words on the page. This year’s theme is to 'Go All In', designed to encourage children to dive deeper into their passions—such as gaming, history, or sports—through reading.

MLB books mimic this with lots of supporting activities and a FREE audio book with every book, complete with sound effects and prompts.

Andy was so impressed with the school’s efforts to embrace the day. Everyone dressed up and really used their imaginations. There were lots of nice touches too like - DEAR time! (Drop Everything And Read). This happened whenever a teacher rang a special World Book Day bell.

Andy visited every class, gave out stickers and cards, signed books and answered LOTS of questions. Children were keen to understand "how long it takes to produce a book" and "how the process works", “what is editing?” and “how do you pick an illustrator.” They had a specific interest however around "what inspires books, what makes they unique" and “how do you get started?” - all great questions!

Andy will definitely be back to this school in the future. It was so welcoming.

All together now…

Granny was quick to reply,

“A deer?! Oh no dear, there’s no deer around here!”
